Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he loved playing numerous card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming very competitive in these particular card games while competing against his dad. After finishing high school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little while and relocated to New York City to participate in some formidable chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were tough as he would play extensive hours and lose a majority of the time. He earned some extra cash by being an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he could boost his game by balancing his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to get more rest and focus attention even more on the game.

The real advancement in his game began when he began wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would regularly challenge each other. Howard had access into some of the foremost minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would hone his strategic thinking techniques. Howard used these strategy concepts in the game of NL hold’em.

He also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of poker as she would always be asking questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie Duke to move out to Sin City and compete in the WSOP competition. Annie is one of the best female players the poker world ever. Howard Lederer relocated to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played money games for the next 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
