Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve closing game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best gamblers in the world. While participating in net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players in the world could be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be found competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in high stakes omaha high and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in money games?
