Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the planet by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
