Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 where he liked betting on various card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very aggressive in the above-mentioned card games while competing against his dad. After graduating from secondary school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a bit and moved away to New York to participate in some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were tough as he would play many hours and do not win a majority of the time. He earned some extra money by being an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he possibly could boost his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to get more rest and concentrate more on the game.

The real improvement in his game happened when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest gamblers would regularly wager against one another. Howard had access into several of the greatest minds in chess. With their assistance, he would sharpen his strategic thinking abilities. Howard used these strategic concepts in the game of NL Texas Holdem.

Howard Lederer also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. She was a superb student of poker as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the correct choice. He told Annie Duke to head out to Las Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie is one of the strongest female players the poker arena ever. He headed to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in money games for the next decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, he decided to play more tournaments.
